In our previous blogs, we examined the Islamic Authority Paradox history through textual analysis and legal structures. We saw how Qur’an 4:80 establishes Messenger’s obedience as equivalent to Allah’s obedience, and how blasphemy laws reveal this hierarchy through protection asymmetry—death for insulting Muhammad[PBUH], lesser punishment for insulting Allah. Now we turn to Islamic Authority Paradox history as proof of doctrine itself as evidence.

Before proceeding, one clarification is necessary. Islam is not internally uniform. It contains deep and often irreconcilable contradictions—Sunni and Shia schisms, jurisprudential schools, sectarian violence, and even caste-like social stratifications observable in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. These internal divisions are well known and are actively being fought today, including in Yemen’s ongoing Sunni–Shia war. Yet despite this fragmentation, Islamic scholarship, theology, and political advocacy consistently present Islam outwardly as a single, monolithic system—especially when engaging non-Muslim societies. It is this externally unified authority posture, not internal theological harmony, that this analysis examines. This external unity is asserted even in minority-Muslim contexts, where religious claims are often framed through victimhood, secular posture, or legal exceptionalism, as examined in International Law Under Siege.

When any ideological system claims divine mandate, the ultimate test isn’t what its texts say and how they are interpreted, but what its adherents consistently do when they possess power.

Islamic Authority Paradox History as proof of doctrine isn’t merely theoretical—it has produced remarkably consistent patterns across 1,400 years, from 7th century Arabia to 21st century Europe. Whether examining the Ridda Wars immediately after Muhammad’s death or contemporary Love Jihad cases in India, we find the same authority structure operating with mechanical precision. This isn’t interpretation or selective reading—it’s documented history showing doctrine in action.

The Ridda Wars: First Implementation (632-633 CE)

The moment Muhammad[PBUH] died in 632 CE, history as proof of doctrine faced its first test. Various Arab tribes declared they would continue following Allah but rejected the authority of messenger’s successors. They offered to maintain prayer (salah) but refused to pay zakat to Medina. This was logical—if they followed Allah, why should messenger’s death change anything?

Abu Bakr’s response revealed the true authority structure. He declared total war on these “apostates,” stating:

“By Allah, I will fight whoever differentiates between prayer and zakat, as zakat is the right to be taken from wealth. By Allah, if they refuse to pay me even a young goat they used to pay to the Messenger of Allah, I will fight them for withholding it.” (Sahih Bukhari 1400)

The Ridda Wars killed tens of thousands. The “crime” wasn’t abandoning Allah—many tribes explicitly maintained belief in Allah. The crime was questioning the continuing authority of Muhammad’s system after his death. Key Pattern: Challenging Muhammad’s authority = death, even if maintaining belief in Allah.

The Assassination Protocol: Poets and Critics (624-630 CE)

During Muhammad’s lifetime, history as proof of doctrine operated through targeted assassinations that established permanent precedent:

Asma bint Marwan (poetess, mother of five):

• Killed while nursing her infant

• Crime: Verses criticizing the killing of Abu Afak

• messenger’s response: Called her killer “one who helped Allah and His Prophet”

Ka’b ibn al-Ashraf (Jewish poet):

• Assassinated through deception
• Crime: Lamenting Meccan deaths at Badr
• Muhammad[PBUH] personally asked: “Who will kill Ka’b?”

Abu Rafi (Jewish leader):

• Killed in his sleep
• Crime: Supporting Muhammad’s enemies
• Multiple companions competed for the honor

These weren’t casualties of war. They were systematic eliminations of critics, establishing that questioning Muhammad’s authority warranted death. The Muslim Brotherhood’s intelligence operations that media ignored in France follow identical patterns—identify critics, isolate them, eliminate their influence.

Medieval India: The Laboratory of Implementation (712-1707 CE)

History as proof of doctrine found its most extensive testing ground in India, where it operated for a thousand years:

Muhammad bin Qasim (712 CE)

First Islamic invader of Sindh. After conquering Debal:

• Executed all men who refused to acknowledge messenger’s authority

• Enslaved women and children
• Destroyed temples, built mosques on their foundations
• Documented in Chach Nama: “The infidels were invited to accept Islam or death”

Mahmud of Ghazni (997-1030 CE)

Seventeen invasions specifically targeting temples:

• Somnath Temple: 50,000 Hindus killed defending it
• Mathura: “No pen can describe the beauty of the temples before they were reduced to ruins”
• Pattern: Not just conquest but deliberate religious humiliation

The Delhi Sultanate (1206-1526 CE)

Alauddin Khilji:

• Price controls included fixing prices of Hindu slaves
• Proclaimed: “Hindus will pay taxes with such humility that they will not even raise their eyes”
• The human rights paradox of selective application was established centuries before modern international law

Firoz Shah Tughlaq:

• Burned a Brahmin alive for practicing his religion

• Proudly recorded: “I destroyed their idol temples and raised mosques in their place”

• Collected jazia with religious fervor

Aurangzeb (1658-1707 CE)

History as proof of doctrine reached its apex:

• Reimposed jazia after Akbar’s liberalization
• Destroyed Kashi Vishwanath, Mathura temples
• Executed Guru Tegh Bahadur for refusing conversion
• Documented in Maasir-i-Alamgiri: “Infidels were to be reduced to financial and social degradation”

This systematic implementation demonstrates how international law becomes besieged when religious doctrine supersedes human rights.
