Blog 5 established that Iran was struck for approaching a nuclear threshold it had not crossed. This blog examines the rule-maker. In the same breathe, Iran was being bombed under the nuclear non-proliferation framework, Washington announced it was resuming nuclear testing, allowed the last arms control treaty with Russia to expire, cited a contested seismic event to accuse China of secret testing, and maintained its decades-long silence on Israel’s ninety undeclared warheads and Pakistan’s proliferation record. The nuclear hypocrisy of USA was active and operational in the same news cycle as the Iran strikes — not historical, not theoretical, but simultaneous.

Nuclear Hypocrisy of USA: The Only Nation That Has Used Them

The architecture of global nuclear governance was built by the only nation in history to have used nuclear weapons in war. The United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima on August 6 1945 and Nagasaki on August 9 1945, killing an estimated one hundred and ten thousand people instantly, with tens of thousands more dying from radiation exposure. No other state has used nuclear weapons in combat. No international tribunal has examined the legality. No UN resolution has demanded accountability. The same nation, then, constructed and leads the NPT regime — and enforces it with the nuclear hypocrisy this blog documents. The selective application of international legal frameworks by their self-appointed enforcers is not a new pattern.

Nuclear Hypocrisy of USA: Israel, Pakistan, North Korea — The Three Silences

Israel is estimated to possess approximately ninety nuclear warheads, has never signed the NPT, and has never submitted its Dimona facility to IAEA safeguards. It maintains nuclear opacity through a secret understanding with Washington honoured since Nixon and Meir reached it in 1969. Israel co-executed the February 28 2026 strikes on Iran for approaching a threshold Israel crossed decades ago. Not one IAEA inspection of Dimona has ever been demanded.

Pakistan acquired nuclear weapons covertly, tested in 1998, and produced the most damaging proliferation network in history. The AQ Khan network sold centrifuge designs and weapons blueprints to Iran, Libya, and North Korea — three states Washington subsequently designated adversaries or struck. Pakistan has never faced American military action and received over thirty-two billion dollars in US aid while running the proliferation network that armed Washington’s stated nuclear enemies.

North Korea detonated its first nuclear device in 2006 and has since conducted six tests, building an estimated arsenal of forty to fifty warheads. Trump met Kim Jong Un three times. The programme was never destroyed. Iran approached a threshold it never crossed and was obliterated. North Korea crossed the threshold eighteen years ago and receives presidential meetings.

Nuclear Hypocrisy of USA: What Washington Did While Bombing Iran

The nuclear hypocrisy of USA on the Iran campaign is sharpest against what Washington was simultaneously doing.

In October 2025, Trump posted on Truth Social that he had instructed the Pentagon to begin nuclear testing on an equal basis with China and Russia, stating the process would begin immediately. The US has maintained a nuclear testing moratorium since 1992. The announcement came while Iran was under maximum pressure for enriching uranium — the same enrichment Washington called an intolerable threat. Nuclear hypocrisy of USA in a single week: bomb Iran for approaching the threshold, announce resumption of US testing.

On February 5 2026 — three weeks before the Operation Epic Fury- Strikes on Iran — the New START treaty expired, leaving the US and Russia without any legally binding limits on their nuclear arsenals for the first time since the early 1970s. Together they hold over five thousand warheads each — approximately ninety percent of all nuclear weapons on the planet that can destroy the world tens of times over before they are exhausted. The last guardrail on those arsenals was removed three weeks before Washington struck Iran for 408 kilograms of sixty percent material that had not been weaponised.

On February 17 2026, the US released intelligence alleging China had conducted a covert low-yield nuclear test at Lop Nur in June 2020, citing a seismic event of magnitude 2.75 detected in Kazakhstan. The CTBTO stated it could not confirm or deny the allegation — the event was far below its 500-tonne detection threshold. China denied the accusation. Washington used the contested claim to justify nuclear testing resumption — eleven days before the Iran strikes.

Nuclear Hypocrisy of USA: The Architecture of Selective Enforcement

The pattern across all cases reveals the operating principle of NPT selective enforcement precisely. Nuclear weapons in the hands of states that serve or do not threaten US strategic and economic interests are tolerated, accommodated, funded, or ignored. Nuclear weapons in the hands of states that control strategic resources and refuse compliance face destruction.

Israel — ninety warheads, no NPT, no IAEA: silence. Pakistan — proliferation network arming three adversary states, thirty-two billion in aid: silence. North Korea — six tests, fifty warheads: summits. Iran — 408 kilograms of sixty percent enriched material, no confirmed weapon, negotiations active: obliteration.

The NPT is not a universal standard. It is a selective instrument deployed by a state that used nuclear weapons on civilian populations, exempts its allies from every obligation, dismantled the last arms control treaty with its primary adversary, and resumed testing while bombing a state for that are yet to approach a threshold and never crossed.

The nuclear hypocrisy of USA does not discredit the principle of non-proliferation. It discredits the enforcer and more specifically, the United States of America, which uses force in ways that reflect selective enforcement rather than universal application.

Weapons-grade requires 90 percent or above. Sixty percent — Iran’s level — has no civilian application and is classified as highly enriched uranium.
